Matterport creates context that isolated photos can miss

A 3D capture helps a remote estimator understand room relationships, travel paths, ceiling heights, openings, finishes, and the location of documented conditions. It can be particularly useful for multi-room water losses, fire projects, and complex interiors.

02

A walkthrough video should follow a consistent path

Begin outside or at the main entrance, identify each room aloud, move slowly, and show transitions between spaces. Capture wide views before close details so a reviewer can tell where each condition is located.

  • State the room or elevation
  • Show floor, walls, ceiling, openings, and connected areas
  • Pause at affected materials and transitions
  • Include measuring references when appropriate
  • Avoid moving so quickly that details blur
  • Protect private or sensitive information visible in the property
03

Use photographs and reports with the 3D capture

Matterport does not replace every close-up photograph, moisture reading, roof report, specialist opinion, or destructive-test result. The strongest file combines the 3D record with assignment-specific evidence and clearly labeled notes.

04

Capture before conditions change

When safe and practical, document the property before major demolition, contents movement, cleaning, or reconstruction. A pre-work record can help the estimator understand original finishes, quantities, room relationships, and affected areas later in the project.
